Overnight storms in South Texas have left several people dead, according to authorities, as rainfall is expected to continue through the weekend. NBC News' George Solis reports that the Guadalupe River rose almost two dozen feet in three hours.

The authorities confirmed that people had died as a result of the flooding along the Guadalupe River, and urged those living near the river to seek higher ground immediately.

A "catastrophic" and deadly flooding emergency was unfolding in Texas on the Fourth of July as heavy rains caused the Guadalupe River to rapidly rise. People have died in Kerr County and roads were flooding in Kerrville, a city of 25,000 people about 60 miles northwest of San Antonio, authorities said.
