A group of democratic socialists gathered in a corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Park in south Minneapolis on Tuesday with glossies for their preferred mayoral, City Council and Park Board candidates stacked on a picnic table.

Zohran Mamdani, the democratic socialist whose blend of populist ideas and personal magnetism catapulted his upstart candidacy, won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City. Former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo came in second. The incumbent, Eric Adams, will run as an independent in November.
