Unified Police of Greater Salt Lake said Daniel Negrelli, a 53-year-old Canton man, died after striking a tree while skiing at Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah.

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - A man died in a skiing accident at Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah on Saturday. The victim was identified as Daniel Negrelli, 53, from Canton. Unified Police of Greater Salt Lake said they received a call that a man was unresponsive at the ski resort.

A skier is dead after reportedly crashing into a tree at Solitude Mountain Resort, according to officials with the Unified Police Department.

In January, a 15-year-old boy was rescued from a southern Utah trail, but left his backpack behind. Weeks later, a father and son found that backpack and used it to survive.

The Utah Hockey Club placed defenseman Juuso Valimaki on waivers Sunday. Valimaki, 26, was in his third season with the Arizona/Utah franchise when he played a combined 189 games. Utah recently added defensemen John Marino and Sean Durzi back into the lineup following long-term injury absences,
