University of Connecticut great and five-time Olympic gold medalist Sue Bird will have a statue unveiled in her honor in Seattle. It's the first time in WNBA history that a statue has been dedicated to a former player. Bird was the No. 1 pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft and she's been with the Seattle Storm ever since.

The UConn women’s basketball legend and Basketball Hall of Famer will be honored with a sculpture outside of Climate Pledge Arena, home of the Seattle Storm, the team announced Wednesday.

The Seattle Storm will unveil a statue of former franchise star Sue Bird on August 17, making the four-time champion the first player to be honored with their own statue by a WNBA franchise.
