Editor’s Note: Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service confirmed at least one tornado touched down Tuesday near Wheatfield, Indiana, with peak winds near 110 mph, ranking as an EF-1 in intensity.
In Kankakee, hail between three to five inches in diameter fell, with one hailstone measuring at six inches and possibly setting an Illinois state record for the largest hailstone, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologists have increased the max intensity of possible tornados in central Illinois on Tuesday to an EF3 strength.
