Fans of match play rejoice: the head-to-head format may be returning to the PGA Tour before too long and it could be incorporated to the playoffs.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp broke down several major changes being considered as soon as next season during a news conference on Wednesday, March 11.
Last year, long and straight drives, formidable long-iron play and some clutch putting catapulted Penge from the DP World Tour to the PGA Tour this season. He won three DPWT titles, nearly overcame Rory McIlroy in the season-long Race to Dubai title and narrowly missed out on a spot on Europe’s Ryder Cup team.
The PGA Tour wants to double the number of signature events and expand fields to 120 players with a 36-hole cut as it looks to overhaul its competitive model to bring the best players together on the best golf courses in big markets.
