Two tropical storms have led to deadly inland flooding in the United States already this season, underscoring how dangerous water can be.

Crews in North Carolina are "overwhelmed" with water rescues and search efforts on Monday after Chantal, then a tropical storm, made landfall a day earlier, causing record-breaking flooding in the central part of the state and at least one death,

The storm flooded roads, downed trees and stranded residents across the central part of the state. It is headed northeast toward Washington, D.C., and Maryland.
