A man was killed after an exchange of gunfire with U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in southern Texas, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

A shooter opened fire at a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, on Monday morning, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said.Border Patrol agents and local police helped "neutralize" the shooter,

Two officers and one Border Patrol employee were injured, including one shot in the knee, a federal spokesperson told USA TODAY. The gunman died.
