New Britain native and UConn alum George Springer has been on a heater– and on Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays outfielder was named American League Player of the Week.

For the sixth time in his MLB career, former UConn baseball standout George Springer has been named the American League Player of the Week. Springer, 35, slashed .429/.500/.964 with five home runs, 13 RBIs, and nine runs scored over the last week. He had multiple hits in five games and had a pair games in which he hit two home runs.

For the first time this season, a Toronto Blue Jay was named the American League Player of the Week. On Monday, the league announced that George Springer was named the player of the week, which isn’t too surprising given the fact that he torched the New York Yankees.
