I’m using SAP2000 v26 to design steel structures based on AISC 360-10, and I'm configuring a nonlinear analysis for the structure. I use the Direct Analysis Method and apply a process where each load case starts with the structure deformed under dead load (state D). Additionally, I adopt K=1 for...
Hi everyone, I am trying to model composite floor in SAP2000. What is the best way to do that? Which area section should I assign? And what about Modulus of Elasticity? The thing I am the most concerned about is its behaviour due to horizontal loads. Please write some notes and tips if you...
When defining frame element properties, they are drawn on the 3-2 plane. I have need of applying those both in the x-z (1-3) axis and rotated 90 degrees on the 3-2 plane. The help files point to rotating the local axis with very little explanation of how this will work. Is there any way to...
Hello, I am currently doing an internship, where I am asked to used SAP2000 V16 to make a simple container, put some loads and get results. I am not really getting on how the connection between frame and shell elements are made. I have been searching on the web, readng manuals and CSI...
Hi all, I have made a slab using shell elements. I would like to draw a section through longitudinal direction of slab to view the shear and moments by plotting them in Excel. When I use section cut definition in SAP2000, I tried defining both by group and quadrilateral plane but the output is...
Sap2000 includes several checks for each design type which AISC 360 and AISC 341 requires the designers to do. The major reason underlying why Sap2000 assigns a "design type" to each member is to handle those individual checks for each type, not to calculate so-called "true" K values.
I have a 64mm thick wall and I have come up with the load that it will have to withstand, 40.15 kN/m on the top of the wall. I have used the distributed load tool but I later read that it is supposed to be in force/area units, so I figures I had to divide my linear distributed load by 0.064m to come up with the load to enter on SAP2000.
I modelled floor slab as shell elements in SAP. If I have a point load vertically applied on some shell element, what is the best way to mesh this shell...
Hello all I am new to SAP2000 and this forum, and I have few questions which I divided into several threads. Some of you will surely find these questions very easy, but please take some time and help if you can. I tried to find answers in manuals and here on forum but i couldnt. Question is: I...
If you do not have NL SAP2000 module, another option is to run the model to see where you find tension. Once you see where you have tension, simply delete those springs and re-run the model. It is a nuisance if you have many load cases. SAFE has compression only springs that are ideal for this problem.
